Greenwood senior Beck Pennington announced Thursday night on Twitter that he has committed to play tennis at the University of Kentucky.
Pennington, the reigning Kentucky state champion, later confirmed to me that he gave his verbal commitment to UK on Thursday, but will sign his official letter of intent during a ceremony at Greenwood sometime next week.
Pennington beat St. Xavier’s Alex Gornet for the state title in May. As of Tuesday, he was ranked the top player in the state by tennisrecruiting.net, as well as the 15th-best player in the Southeast region.
The recruiting site has Pennington tabbed as the 53rd best player in the nation.
The Daily News will have coverage of his signing next week, along with any other college signings that occur during the ongoing early signing period.
