I’m still out covering WKU’s baseball doubleheader at Nick Denes Field, but BGDN writer Chad Bishop passed along a couple of strong comments from women’s basketball coach Mary Taylor Cowles after the Lady Tops’ 70-33 loss at South Alabama.
Chad will have much more on that game in Sunday’s Daily News, but for now, here are Cowles’ quick comments:
How did things get so bad?
“You know what? I really don’t know. It’s just such a surprise to all of us after some strides we felt like we had really made forward, both on the road as well as at home on Wednesday (in a win over Florida Atlantic). That’s what we just tried to discuss. But it was very frustrating – more than anything it was embarrassing for our program, it was embarrassing for our school and I apologize personally. And I mean that in all sincerity. This is not typical of our program and we’re just much better than that. We’re gonna prepare for what we have ahead of us this week in the regular season and then our get ourselves ready for March when it comes tournament time. I can’t explain this.”
Defending the 3:
“That’s what we know they do really, really well. I don’t know that I can give you an answer for that or why we allowed them to have that many. Not only did they make 12 but they shot 27 – that’s a lot of 3s to give up.”
