The Greenwood Gators sent out a notice Friday night – they can be dangerous on both sides of the ball.
Greenwood (1-0) forced five turnovers against Trousdale County (Tenn.), and senior running back Tanner Thompson accounted for four touchdowns in a 34-13 victory in the first game of the Fruit of the Loom Rival’s Bowl at Warren Central High School.
“We came together as a team, no doubt,” Thompson said. “We played our hearts out.”
Thompson rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and he started the game with a spark by returning the opening kickoff 80 yards for a score.
“I didn’t expect that at all,” Thompson said. “I really didn’t even expect to get the ball. I didn’t have anywhere to go, and then it just opened up.”
