The Western Kentucky women’s basketball team has added another perimeter player to the 2013 class.
Chanell Lockhart, a 5-foot-10-inch guard from Odessa College (Texas), signed Tuesday with the Lady Toppers.
“Chanell is a great athlete and unbelievable competitor,” WKU coach Michelle Clark-Heard said in a statement. “She can defend and rebound the basketball. She will be a nice addition on the offensive end but will do a lot for us defensively as well.
“She is a great addition to our family as we continue to try to build our program back to a championship level that can compete for the conference championship and advance in the NCAA tournament.”
The Chicago native averaged 10.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists as a sophomore for Odessa, helping lead the Wranglers to a 22-8 record. She played her high school ball at Chicago Vocational Career Academy.
Lockhart has two years of eligibility remaining.
WKU announced the signing last week of Chipola College (Fla.) sophomore guard Jasmine Crawford. The Lady Tops still have one scholarship available after the departures last week of freshmen LeAsia Wright and Mariah Sunkett.
WKU has six recruits in its 2013 class, including four who signed in November – guard Kierra Muhammad, forward Aleeya Harris, and centers Bria Gaines and Ruta Savickaite.
