Some video has finally surfaced from the Western Kentucky women’s basketball program of the Lady Toppers’ wild 57-55 win Saturday over Georgetown in San Juan, Puerto Rico. That video is available above.
WKU trailed Georgetown by 16 in the second half, and by three with 13 seconds left and the Hoyas in possession of the ball. But two Georgetown turnovers and two clutch buckets by WKU completed an improbable rally, and the Lady Tops escaped with a victory in the Puerto Rico Classic.
“It’s the first one like this for me,” WKU coach Michelle Clark-Heard said by phone after the game. “As a head coach, it’s what you dream about – to draw up a play-call in that situation, and your team follow through. I’m so proud of our group. We’ve been in these situations before and come up short.”
The Lady Tops (8-3) never led until junior guard Alexis Govan’s game-winning basket off her own steal with one second left. That followed a tying 3-pointer by senior Bianca McGee with six seconds remaining after Georgetown threw away an inbounds pass while up 55-52.
