Two days before National Signing Day, Warren Central’s Chris Porter-Bunton announced Monday night that he is decommitting from Tennessee-Martin for football and will instead play basketball in college.

Porter-Bunton tweeted the news Monday night and later confirmed it to the Daily News. He verbally committed to UT-Martin on Jan. 27 and had also been considering James Madison at the time.

But the 6-foot-4-inch forward had often said over the past two years he was torn between playing football or basketball in college. He led Warren Central to the boys’ state basketball tournament last season, and the Dragons are 16-4 this year.

“One simple reason. I love to hoop,” Porter-Bunton tweeted.

Porter-Bunton has heard from Miami (Ohio) and Kentucky Wesleyan for hoops and is scheduled to talk with Southeast Missouri tonight, he said.

As of now, there are three local football signings for Wednesday’s National Signing Day confirmed to the Daily News.

Bowling Green receiver Nacarius Fant will sign with Western Kentucky at 9 a.m. Wednesday. South Warren defensive lineman Adrian Middleton (Kentucky) and linebacker/running back Joel Iyiegbuniwe (WKU) will sign at 10:30 a.m.
